Redact PDF

Permanently black out text and areas in a PDF: search words, emails and phone numbers, or draw boxes. Hidden content is really removed.

Share documents without exposing names, account numbers, addresses or signatures. Search for words, email addresses and phone numbers, or draw boxes over anything you want to hide.

This is real redaction: every page with a black box is rebuilt as an image, so the covered text can't be selected, copied or recovered. And because the tool runs in your browser, the sensitive document is never uploaded anywhere.

How to use Redact PDF

  1. Click “Choose PDF file” or drop your PDF onto the page.
  2. Type a word or phrase and click “Mark all”, or mark all email addresses or phone numbers.
  3. Drag on the page to cover anything else; move or resize boxes, use ‹ › for other pages.
  4. Click “Redact & save” and download the redacted copy.

Features

  • Search and mark words or phrases on all pages at once.
  • One click to mark email addresses or phone numbers.
  • Draw boxes over photos, signatures, stamps or handwriting.
  • Permanent: redacted pages are flattened to images; document properties are removed.
  • Pages without redactions stay unchanged; no upload, no sign-up.

Frequently asked questions

Is the redacted text really gone?

Yes. Pages with black boxes are re-created as images with the boxes burned in. The original text on those pages is not in the new file, so it can't be copied, searched or recovered.

Why can't I select text on redacted pages afterwards?

Because those pages are now images — that is what makes the redaction safe. Pages without redactions keep their selectable text.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Yes, draw boxes over what you want to hide. Searching needs real text, so it doesn't find words in scans.

Is my document uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser — important for exactly the kind of documents people redact.

Should I check the result?

Always. Open the redacted PDF, look at every page and try to select text under the boxes before you share it.
