WebP Converter

Convert WebP to JPG or PNG, and JPG, PNG or GIF to WebP — lossy or lossless, transparency kept. Batch, ZIP download, in your browser.

Downloaded a .webp image that your app won't open? Convert it to JPG or PNG. Building a website and want faster pages? Convert your JPG and PNG images to WebP, which is typically 25–35% smaller at the same quality and still supports transparency.

This converter does both directions — just drop any mix of files. It uses Google's libwebp encoder running in your browser, so your images are never uploaded.

How to use WebP Converter

  1. Click “Choose images”, drop files onto the page, or paste an image with Ctrl+V.
  2. WebP files are converted to JPG or PNG (Auto picks PNG when the image has transparency); all other images become WebP.
  3. Adjust the WebP quality, or tick Lossless to keep every pixel.
  4. Compare before and after, then download each file or all of them as a ZIP.

  • Lossy WebP with a quality slider, or lossless WebP.
  • Transparency is kept in WebP and PNG output.
  • Batch conversion of mixed files and ZIP download.
  • Uses libwebp, MozJPEG and OxiPNG; private — nothing is uploaded.

What is WebP?

WebP is an image format created by Google for the web. It supports both lossy compression (like JPG) and lossless compression (like PNG), plus transparency and animation, in files that are usually noticeably smaller. All current browsers support it — Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari 14 or newer — but some older programs, photo printers and upload forms still don't, which is why people convert WebP to JPG or PNG.

WebP vs JPG vs PNG

WebP combines the strengths of JPG and PNG. Google's own comparisons found lossy WebP files about 25–34% smaller than JPG at the same quality, and lossless WebP about 26% smaller than PNG.

Converting images to WebP for a website

Smaller images make pages load faster, which helps both visitors and search rankings (Core Web Vitals). Convert photos with quality 75–85 and graphics with lossless or quality 90+. Resize images to the size they are displayed at before converting — a 4000 px photo shown 800 px wide wastes most of its bytes. Keep your originals in case you need another format later.

Animated WebP

Animated WebP files are converted using their first frame, giving a still JPG or PNG. Converting animated GIFs to WebP likewise keeps the first frame as a still image.

Saving WebP images from websites

Many websites serve images as WebP, so “Save image as…” in your browser often gives you a .webp file even when the page looked like it showed a JPG. Some older programs, office suites, photo printers and upload forms can't open these files. Drop the .webp file here to get a normal JPG — or a PNG when the image has a transparent background — that opens everywhere. Please respect the copyright of images you download: converting a file doesn't change who owns it.

Frequently asked questions

Which WebP quality should I use for my website?

75–85 is the sweet spot for photos: much smaller than JPG with no visible loss. Use 90+ or Lossless for graphics with text, logos and screenshots, and resize images to their display size first.

Is the WebP converter free and private?

Yes. It is free with no limits and runs in your browser — your images are never uploaded.

How do I convert WebP to JPG?

Drop the .webp file in and choose “JPG” under “WebP → other formats” (or leave Auto). Download the JPG when it's ready.

Why can't I open WebP files?

Some older programs (for example older versions of Photoshop, Windows Photo Viewer or office software) do not support WebP. Convert to JPG or PNG to open them anywhere.

Does converting to WebP reduce quality?

Lossy WebP at quality 80+ looks the same as the original for most images. Choose Lossless when every pixel must stay exactly the same.

Is transparency kept?

Yes, when converting to WebP or PNG. JPG has no transparency, so Auto saves transparent WebP images as PNG.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes, and they can be a mix: WebP files become JPG/PNG and all other images become WebP. Download them all as a ZIP.
