PNG to JPG
Convert PNG images to JPG with adjustable quality. Transparent areas get the background colour you choose. Batch, ZIP download, no upload.
Turn PNG images into JPG to make them much smaller and accepted everywhere — forms, email, older apps and photo printers. Choose the JPG quality and the colour that replaces transparent areas, since JPG cannot store transparency.
Images are converted with MozJPEG, an encoder that produces smaller JPGs than most apps at the same quality, right in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
How to use PNG to JPG
- Click “Choose PNG images”, drop them onto the page, or paste one with Ctrl+V.
- Set the JPG quality (90 is a good default) and the background colour for transparent parts.
- Each image is converted straight away; check the size saving and compare before and after.
- Download each JPG, or all of them as a ZIP.
Features
- PNG to JPG, also from WebP, BMP, GIF and AVIF.
- Adjustable JPG quality from 40 to 100.
- Choose the background colour for transparent areas (white by default).
- MozJPEG encoder: smaller files at the same visual quality.
- Batch conversion and ZIP download.
- Private: runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.
Why convert PNG to JPG?
Photos saved as PNG are very large because PNG is lossless. Converting them to JPG usually makes them 70–90% smaller with no visible difference, which makes uploads, emails and websites faster. Many forms and older systems also accept only JPG. For screenshots with text, sharp logos or images that need transparency, keep PNG — or use WebP, which supports both.
What happens to transparent backgrounds?
JPG has no transparency, so every transparent or semi-transparent pixel is blended with a solid colour. White suits documents and most websites; choose your page's background colour so the image blends in, or black for dark designs. If you need to keep the transparency, use WebP or keep the PNG.
Which JPG quality should I choose?
Higher quality means a larger file. The differences between 85 and 100 are very hard to see, while the file size can double.
| Quality | Use for |
|---|---|
| 95–100 | Printing, archiving, images you will edit again |
| 85–92 | Most uses: sharing, websites, documents (recommended) |
| 70–80 | Email attachments, previews, smaller pages |
| 40–65 | Thumbnails only — compression artefacts become visible |
Converting PNG to JPG on Windows, Mac and phones
Windows Paint can open a PNG and save it as JPEG (File › Save as › JPEG picture), and Preview on a Mac can export to JPEG with a quality slider (File › Export). Both handle one file at a time and fill transparent areas with white or black without asking. This converter processes a whole batch in one go, lets you choose the background colour, and uses MozJPEG, which produces noticeably smaller files than most built-in encoders at the same visual quality.
On phones, screenshots are saved as PNG; converting them to JPG before sharing or uploading saves space and upload time, as long as they don't contain small text that needs to stay perfectly sharp.
Frequently asked questions
Which background colour should I choose?
White suits documents, forms and most websites. If the image will sit on a coloured page, pick that colour so the edges blend in. Areas that were only partly transparent are mixed with the colour smoothly.
Why does text look slightly blurry in my JPG?
JPG compression is designed for photos and softens sharp edges such as small text and thin lines. Raise the quality to 95, or keep screenshots with text as PNG (or WebP) instead.
Is the PNG to JPG converter free and private?
Yes. It is free and converts images in your browser — they are never uploaded.
Will I lose quality converting PNG to JPG?
JPG is lossy, so a tiny amount of detail is removed, but at quality 85–92 it is not visible in photos. Sharp text and thin lines may show slight blur — keep PNG or use WebP for those.
What happens to the transparent background?
It is filled with the background colour you choose — white by default — because JPG cannot store transparency.
Can I convert many PNG files at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like and download all JPGs as one ZIP file.
How much smaller will my files be?
Photos saved as PNG often shrink by 70–90%. Simple graphics with few colours may shrink less, or even grow, because PNG is very efficient for them.
Can I convert JPG back to PNG?
Yes — use JPG to PNG. Note that it cannot restore the detail JPG compression removed.
