JPG to PNG
Convert JPG images to PNG in your browser, with an option to make a white or coloured background transparent. Batch, lossless, no upload.
Convert JPG and JPEG images to PNG in seconds. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which makes it the format of choice for logos, icons, screenshots and anything you will edit further. Tick “Make the background transparent” to remove a white (or any solid) background — perfect for signatures, logos and product shots.
Conversion happens in your browser, so your images are never uploaded. Convert one file or many at once and download them as a ZIP.
How to use JPG to PNG
- Click “Choose JPG images”, drop them onto the page, or paste an image with Ctrl+V.
- Optional: tick “Make the background transparent”, pick the background colour and adjust the tolerance.
- Each image is converted to PNG straight away; compare before and after with the slider.
- Download each PNG, or all of them as a ZIP.
Features
- JPG / JPEG to PNG, also from WebP, BMP and GIF.
- Remove a white or solid-colour background to make it transparent, with soft edges.
- Lossless PNG output, optimised with OxiPNG.
- Phone photos are turned upright automatically.
- Batch conversion and ZIP download.
- Private: runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.
Why convert JPG to PNG?
PNG keeps every pixel exactly, so it does not lose quality when you edit and save it again, while JPG loses a little detail every time. PNG also supports transparency. Convert to PNG when you need a transparent background, when you will keep editing the image, or when a website or app only accepts PNG.
Will the PNG be larger than the JPG?
Usually yes — often 3 to 10 times larger for photos, because PNG stores every pixel without the lossy compression that makes JPG small. Converting also cannot restore detail that JPG compression already removed: the PNG looks exactly like the JPG. For photos you only want to share, keep JPG or use WebP; use PNG for graphics, logos and images that need transparency.
| JPG | PNG | |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Lossy (small files) | Lossless (exact pixels) |
| Transparency | No | Yes |
| Best for | Photos | Logos, icons, screenshots, graphics |
| Re-saving | Loses a little quality each time | No loss |
How to make a JPG background transparent
Tick “Make the background transparent” and choose the background colour (white by default). Raise the tolerance if traces of the background remain — JPG compression makes “white” slightly uneven — and lower it if parts of your subject disappear. Edges are softened so the result blends onto any background. This works best for logos, signatures and objects photographed on a plain background.
Converting JPG to PNG without a website
On Windows, open the image in Paint and choose File › Save as › PNG picture. On a Mac, open it in Preview, choose File › Export and pick PNG as the format. On iPhone and Android there is no built-in option, which is where a browser tool like this one helps. None of these built-in methods can make a background transparent, and they convert one file at a time — this converter does both, for any number of images at once.
Whichever method you use, keep the original JPG: converting to PNG and back again cannot add quality, but each JPG save loses a little.
Frequently asked questions
Will my photo be turned the right way up?
Yes. Phones store photos with an orientation note instead of rotating the pixels; the converter applies it, so the PNG is upright in every app. Location and camera details are not copied into the PNG.
Is the JPG to PNG converter free and private?
Yes. It is free and converts images in your browser — they are never uploaded.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. The PNG looks exactly like the JPG; detail removed by JPG compression cannot be restored. What you gain is lossless editing from now on and transparency.
Can I make the white background transparent?
Yes. Tick “Make the background transparent”. You can also choose another background colour and adjust the tolerance.
Why is my PNG file so much bigger?
PNG is lossless. Photos have millions of slightly different colours that PNG must store exactly, so the file grows. That is normal.
Can I convert many JPGs at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like and download all the PNGs as one ZIP file.
Can I convert PNG back to JPG?
Yes — use PNG to JPG. You can choose the background colour for transparent areas and the JPG quality.
