HEIC to JPG
Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG or PNG in your browser — perfect for Windows and Android. Batch, keeps quality, no upload.
iPhones and iPads save photos as HEIC, a format many Windows PCs, Android phones, websites and photo printers can't open. Drop your HEIC photos here to turn them into JPG (or PNG) files that work everywhere — in full quality, one at a time or hundreds at once.
The conversion runs in your browser with the open-source libheif decoder, so your personal photos are never uploaded. Photos come out the right way up, and location data is not copied into the new files.
How to use HEIC to JPG
- Click “Choose HEIC photos” or drop .heic / .heif files onto the page.
- The first time, the HEIC engine (about 1.5 MB) downloads once; then each photo converts in a second or two.
- Choose JPG or PNG, the JPG quality and, if you like, a maximum size.
- Download each photo, or all of them as a ZIP.
Features
- HEIC and HEIF (iPhone, iPad, many Android and Samsung phones) to JPG or PNG.
- Full resolution and high quality (adjustable JPG quality).
- Batch conversion with ZIP download.
- Multi-image HEIC files: convert just the main photo or all images in the file.
- Optional maximum size, e.g. 2048 px for sharing.
- Photos stay upright; GPS location and camera data are not copied.
- Works on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone browsers — no app to install.
- Private: nothing is uploaded.
What is HEIC and why does my iPhone use it?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container, part of the HEIF standard) stores photos about half the size of a JPG of the same quality, so iPhones have used it by default since iOS 11 to save storage. It can also hold several images, depth information and Live Photo stills in one file. The downside is compatibility: Windows needs an extra codec, many websites and upload forms reject it, and older software can't open it at all — so converting to JPG is often the easiest fix.
HEIC vs JPG
Both store photos with lossy compression. HEIC is newer and more efficient; JPG works everywhere.
| HEIC | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| File size (same quality) | About half | Baseline |
| Opens on Windows / Android / web | Not always | Everywhere |
| Multiple images in one file | Yes | No |
| Transparency | Yes | No |
| Best for | Storing photos on Apple devices | Sharing, uploading, printing |
How to stop your iPhone saving HEIC
If you'd rather have JPG photos from the start, open Settings › Camera › Formats and choose “Most Compatible”. New photos are then saved as JPG (and videos as H.264). Photos you already took stay HEIC. Alternatively, keep HEIC on the phone and set Settings › Photos › Transfer to Mac or PC › Automatic, which converts photos to JPG when you copy them with a cable.
Opening HEIC files on Windows and Android
Windows 10 and 11 can show HEIC photos after installing the “HEIF Image Extensions” (and sometimes “HEVC Video Extensions”) from the Microsoft Store, but many programs still won't accept them. Recent Android phones can view HEIC, but apps and websites often can't. Converting to JPG avoids all of that, and this converter works in any modern browser without installing anything.
Frequently asked questions
Is this HEIC to JPG converter free and private?
Yes. It is free with no limits, and your photos are converted in your browser — they are never uploaded to a server.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
At the default JPG quality of 90 the difference is not visible. The JPG will usually be larger than the HEIC, because HEIC compresses more efficiently.
Can I convert many HEIC photos at once?
Yes. Select or drop as many as you like; they are converted one after another and can be downloaded together as a ZIP file.
Why does the first conversion take a little longer?
The HEIC decoder (about 1.5 MB) downloads the first time you use the tool. After that it is cached by your browser and conversions start immediately.
Are location and date kept?
Location and camera details are not copied into the converted photos, which makes them safer to share. If you need that information, keep your original HEIC files.
Some HEIC files contain several images — what happens?
By default the main photo is converted. Tick “All images in each file” to convert every image in it; they are saved together in a ZIP.
Can I convert HEIC to PNG?
Yes — choose PNG under “Save as”. PNG files are lossless and much larger; use them if you will edit the photo further.
