Compress PDF

Reduce PDF file size by shrinking images and removing unused data. Choose low, recommended or strong compression — in your browser.

Make PDFs small enough for email attachments and online application forms. Large PDFs are usually large because of photos and scans — this tool shrinks those images to a sensible resolution, removes unused data and packs the file more tightly.

Everything happens on your own device. Unlike most online compressors, your document is never uploaded to a server.

How to use Compress PDF

  1. Click “Choose PDF file” or drop your PDF onto the page.
  2. Pick a level: Low (best quality), Recommended or Strong (smallest file).
  3. Click “Compress PDF”.
  4. See the new size, then download the compressed PDF.

Features

  • Three compression levels.
  • Images are only replaced when that makes them clearly smaller — sharp diagrams stay sharp.
  • Text stays text: selectable, searchable and crisp.
  • Never gives you a bigger file — it tells you when a PDF is already optimized.
  • No upload, no sign-up, no watermark.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my PDF get?

Scanned documents and PDFs with photos often shrink by 50–90 %. PDFs that are mostly text are usually already small and may not get much smaller.

Which level should I choose?

“Recommended” suits most documents. Use “Strong” when a website demands a very small file (for example under 1 MB), and “Low” when image quality matters most.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. It is compressed by your own browser; nothing leaves your device.

Will text become blurry?

No. Only images are recompressed. Text and vector drawings are not changed.

Why didn't my file get smaller?

It is already efficiently compressed, or it has no large images. Some images (for example CMYK print images) are left untouched to keep their colours correct.
