Remove Duplicate Lines

Remove duplicate lines from any list instantly. Ignore case and spaces, keep the first or last copy, sort, and see which lines were repeated.

Paste a list — email addresses, keywords, names, URLs, IDs — and get every line only once. Choose whether “Apple” and “apple” count as the same, ignore stray spaces, drop empty lines and sort the result A–Z, Z–A, naturally (2 before 10) or by length.

You can also do the opposite and see only the lines that appear more than once, with how many times each was repeated. Everything happens in your browser, so private lists stay private.

How to use Remove Duplicate Lines

  1. Paste your list into “Your list”, one item per line (or open a .txt or .csv file).
  2. Duplicates are removed instantly; the result appears on the right.
  3. Adjust the options: keep the first or last copy, ignore case or spaces, remove empty lines, sort.
  4. Copy the result or download it as a text file.

Features

  • Removes duplicate lines instantly, keeping the original order.
  • Keep the first or the last occurrence.
  • Ignore upper/lower case and leading or trailing spaces.
  • Remove empty lines.
  • Sort A–Z, Z–A, natural (2 before 10) or by length — correct for accented letters.
  • Show only the duplicated lines, with how many times each appears.
  • Handles lists with hundreds of thousands of lines; nothing is uploaded.

How duplicates are detected

Two lines are duplicates when they are exactly the same — after the options you choose. With “Ignore case” on, “Apple”, “APPLE” and “apple” are one line. With “Ignore leading / trailing spaces” on (the default), “ apple ” and “apple” are one line. The first copy is kept by default, so the list keeps its original order; choose Last to keep the latest copy instead, which is useful for logs where later entries are newer.

Common uses

Clean email or newsletter lists before importing them, remove repeated keywords from an SEO list, deduplicate product IDs or SKUs, tidy log files, merge lists from several sources, and find which entries were entered twice by switching on “Show only the duplicated lines”.

Removing duplicates in Excel or Google Sheets

Spreadsheets can do this too (Data › Remove duplicates in Excel, Data › Data cleanup › Remove duplicates in Google Sheets), but they work on whole rows and need several clicks. Copy one column, paste it here, and paste the result back — the order is kept unless you choose to sort.

Tips for cleaning lists

Clean the list before removing duplicates: entries that differ only in capital letters or extra spaces are the most common reason duplicates slip through, so keep “Ignore leading / trailing spaces” on and tick “Ignore case” for email addresses and names. For email lists, Whitespace Remover can first strip invisible characters copied from spreadsheets and web pages. When merging lists from several sources, paste them one under the other and let the tool keep the first copy, so entries from your main list win. Sort the result A–Z to spot near-duplicates by eye, such as typos and spelling variants that no tool can safely merge.

Frequently asked questions

Does it remove duplicates from CSV files?

It compares whole lines, so it removes rows that are completely identical. To deduplicate by one column only, copy that column, paste it here, and paste the result back.

Is it free and private?

Yes. It is free and runs in your browser — your lists are never uploaded or saved.

Does it keep the original order?

Yes, unless you choose a sort. With Keep: First, each line stays where it first appeared; with Keep: Last, where it last appeared.

Can it remove duplicates ignoring upper and lower case?

Yes — tick “Ignore case”. The first (or last) spelling is kept.

How do I see which lines were duplicated?

Open “Lines that appeared more than once” under the result for a table with counts, or tick “Show only the duplicated lines” to list just those.

Can I remove duplicate words instead of lines?

Put each word on its own line first (for example by replacing spaces with line breaks in a text editor), then paste the list here.

What is natural sort?

Natural sort orders numbers by their value instead of character by character, so item 2 comes before item 10, the way people expect.
